How to Water Your Lawn Correctly
Everyone with a lawn has dreams of a lush, green, and healthy lawn. But this can sometimes be difficult to achieve. No one necessarily tells you what to do and how often to water the lawn is one of the most common questions. Too little water and your lawn can become brittle, turn brown and basically die. Too much water can leave your lawn susceptible to disease.
The water needs to get down to the root zone. If you are watering and it is not reaching the roots, then your efforts are futile.
When should you water?
Ideally you should water in the morning. Watering in the morning helps to prevent evaporation that can occur on a hot day. Also, earlier in the day, anytime between sunrise and 9 a.m., there is likely to be less wind and less sun (heat) that could otherwise lessen the impact of the water.
Does my grass need water?
It is best to water your grass only when it needs it. Here are a couple ways to determine if your grass is in need of water. If your grass needs to be watered, it will appear in a bluish grey color. Additionally, if you walk on the grass, the footprints you leave behind will stay longer than they really should.
You can also try a rain gauge. A rain gauge will tell you how much rain you have received and with this information you can decide whether or not you need to water your lawn that day. You should be able to find a rain gauge at a lawn and garden store or possibly a hardware store.
How much should you water?
You should water between 1” to 2” per week, and you should break it out 2 to 3 days per week rather than every day. Raining too much will weaken the soil around the roots. Raining too often will cause the roots to be shorter, and you need long roots in order to promote healthier growth.

Very good article about water the lawn properly. I find most people tend to not realize that too much watering can be bad just as no water can be. I did not really know about that foot print thing, very cool information. Please keep writing good content! I appreciate it.
