Watering Your Lawn

How much water?

Your lawn needs 1 to 1-1/2″ (3-4cm) of water weekly.

When is the best time of day to water?

Early morning between the hours of 4:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m. are recommended. Lawn diseases tend to develop throughout the night, therefore, watering in the evening is not advised. Water before temperatures rise throughout the day, so the water doesn’t evaporate before soaking the soil.

Since watering in the early morning is not usually possible for homeowners that don’t have a timed sprinkler system, watering at any time during the day is better than not watering at all.

What about rain?

Spring and summer rains sometimes come like flash floods with gusts and thunderstorms. Lawns can be bone dry one minute and soaking wet the next. We still recommend watering, especially if you want to maximize your lawn fertilizing services, since these rainfalls often fail to penetrate into the root zone and the lawn may need additional watering.
