Green Lawn Fertilizing is nationally exposed to the Green Industry as one of the premier lawn care providers.

Green Lawn Fertilizing was recently featured in Landscape Management’s August 2011 issue “Summer Of The Weed.” The article went on to illustrate why bad weather can be good for lawn care businesses in the industry; explaining lawns endured early wet weather resulting in extremely high temperatures followed by a lack of late summer rainfall. As a result, the irregular weather led to an industry-wide increase for business among lawn care professionals.

Tom Knopsnyder, Vice President of Operations, commented on the concern of the irregular summer weather and how it influenced Green Lawn Fertilizing’s operations. “Crabgrass is becoming more and more of an issue because we’re having soil cracking. Because of that, crabgrass is becoming more and more of a problem along with nutsedge. Before you would never really notice it in the month of July. We’ve been spraying it pretty much since the fourth.”

Tagging along with the article, Landscape Management built a list of the Green Industry’s top shinning stars. Green Lawn Fertilizing is ranked among the top 25 companies with the highest lawn care revenue in the Green Industry according to data provided for the LM150. Green Lawn enthusiastically ranks number 16 among the top 25 highest revenue earning lawn care companies in the Green Industry.

Two months prior, Green Lawn Fertilizing appeared in Landscape Management’s June 2011 issue “LM 150 Who Made The Cut.” The article summarizes the nuts and bolts of Green Lawn’s increasing success in the Green Industry by placing a heavy emphasis on the hiring process; hiring roughly one employee for every one hundred applications and resumes submitted. Matt Jesson, President of Green Lawn Fertilizing, explains the sheer importance of the hiring process at Green Lawn. “This is a very time-consuming, expensive and difficult process, but the service business is about finding great people who will do what it takes to keep customers satisfied,” explained Jesson.

The efforts optimistically pay off dividends for West Chester, PA-based Green Lawn Fertilizing. In 2010, Green Lawn proudly surpassed the $5,000,000 mark. “Year-to-date, we have been able to increase revenue between 12% and 15%, and our customer cancel rate has decreased. This is a true sign we are implementing the proper changes and listening to customers to make sure we provide quality service,” Jesson explains. Green Lawn Fertilizing continues to climb the ladder among other Green Industry giants as the company strives to become the largest independent lawn care company in the industry by providing superior customer service.

Green Lawn Fertilizing is now among the minority of lawn care companies that are giving back to Project Evergreen. Project EverGreen is a non-profit organization; their mission is to conserve and develop green space in our communities now and for subsequent generations. Project EverGreen leads a platform of volunteering service companies where they coordinate: lawn care, landscape maintenance and snow removal.

Green Lawn Fertilizing was attracted to a Project EverGreen initiative—GreenCare for Troops. GreenCare for Troops is a nationwide program where military families can enter and register to sign up for free home and lawn care services. The services come from the good-will of landscaping and lawn care companies to ultimately supply a helping hand to military families in need.

Green Lawn Fertilizing wasted no time in reaching out to the organization that links local green industry professionals all over the country with military families in need of green services in their lives. Eric Appelbaum, Marketing Associate at Green Lawn Fertilizing expressed, “For us, it’s a great opportunity to contribute services to such an influential organization; it truly displays our dedication to corporate citizenship.”

Green Lawn Fertilizing is proud to support the military and green communities. As we look forward to contributing to such a prestigious organization, Green Lawn Fertilizing is actively looking forward to spending our professional time and services to military families in need of green care!

When is the best time to aerate?

Spring or fall is the best time to use aeration to enhance the development of a deep root system so that it can withstand drought, disease and insect stresses.

How often should I mow?

The lawn should be mowed frequently so that only a small clipping is taken from the grass plant.

Mowing height?

Never remove more than 1/3 of the total grass blade. Removing too much of the blade length at one time stresses the grass and weakens your lawn. Because the system of a grass plant grows proportionately to the above ground parts of the plant, a longer cutting height results in a stronger, deeper root system. Keeping the grass longer in the summer is ideal, as cutting it too short will allow for it to be more susceptible to heat stress.

Animal urine contains soluble salts, urea, and other compounds.

The displacement of animal wastes throughout a lawn can result in a patchy uneven colored lawn including dead spots.

How much water does my lawn need, and when are the best watering times? How do I deal with natural rainfall?

How much water?

Your lawn needs 1 to 1-1/2″ (3-4cm) of water weekly.

When is the best time of day to water?

Early morning between the hours of 4:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m. are recommended. Lawn diseases tend to develop throughout the night, therefore, watering in the evening is not advised. Water before temperatures rise throughout the day, so the water doesn’t evaporate before soaking the soil.

Since watering in the early morning is not usually possible for homeowners that don’t have a timed sprinkler system, watering at any time during the day is better than not watering at all.

What about rain?

Spring and summer rains sometimes come like flash floods with gusts and thunderstorms. Lawns can be bone dry one minute and soaking wet the next. Sometimes these rainfalls fail to penetrate into the root zone and the lawn may need additional watering.
